Liezl's Tips

So, Anelle asked me to share some cool travel tips for her blog, and I have to say, I'm probably her most spontaneous client because I always surprise her with my last-minute adventures. So, here we go about the art of packing and flying.

Packing (This one is a bit of a challenge for me because I work in the fashion industry and I always want to take a wardrobe with me):
- Remember, you really only need half of what you think you need. The old top you never wear, you probably won't wear in a foreign country either.
- And remember, if you pack less, there's more room for new purchases when you get back.
- Don't buy a bunch of new clothes in advance. Save your money for local shopping.
Most importantly: comfortable shoes! You will be walking a lot, but this is not a fashion show. I recommend having a decent pair of walking shoes or maybe a stylish sandal that you can wear for beach adventures and dining out.
What to wear during your flight:
- Wear comfortable clothes that still look a little stylish, especially if you're traveling alone. You never know when you might get a free upgrade, but it only happens if you look good.
- Don't fly in a pair of jeans, you'll regret it, trust me. Comfortable loose fitting trousers preferred.
Always keep a few extra clothes in your hand luggage, just in case your luggage gets lost. This happened to my mom recently, and it sure wasn't fun!
Another smart thing to do is go to the airport in your flight clothes, change on the plane, get some sleep, and change back into your fresh clothes before landing so you feel fresh and ready for the day.
And now for some other handy travel tips:
- Don't decide anything without Anelle, because it can be a mess.
- Insure yourself with travel insurance. Don't travel without it.
- If you fly often, choose an airport company and stick with it. The loyal flyer programs can be really rewarding. You can exchange your frequent flyer miles for discounts or an upgrade to business class, transfer in the check-in queue, and even use lounges during transfers.
- Check-in as soon as possible, or ask Anelle to help you. Find out where you sit on the plane.
- Consider choosing a window or aisle seat. A window seat is usually better for sleep and it is quiet.
- If you plan to lie down on an overnight flight, inquire at the check-in kiosk if there might be empty seats next to you. The back of the plane is often quieter.
- Arrive at the airport at least three hours before your flight. Trust me, it takes longer than you think to get through security. Rather be early, through customs, and then you can relax.
- And one of the most important things to pack is a reusable water bottle that you can refill as soon as it's empty.
That's it for now.
In the next blog I will share handy travel tips and apps to make your lives easier.
Safe travels, friends!
